China expressed strong displeasure towards the United States for congratulating Lai Ching-te on winning Taiwan’s presidential election.

China claims Taiwan as its own territory and opposes any support for Taiwan’s independence. Despite the US commending Taiwan’s democratic process, China vehemently protested, arguing that it violates the “one-China principle.” Beijing urged the US to halt official interactions with Taiwan and refrain from sending signals supportive of separatist movements.

Notably, a US delegation’s unofficial post-election visit to Taiwan was announced, although China did not specifically address this development in its response. Tensions persist as geopolitical complexities surrounding Taiwan continue to strain relations between the US and China.
